    Overview

    A DBA II is responsible for implementing solutions, policies, and procedures for the administration and development of database systems in the organization.

    Responsibilities

    • Ensure continuous 24 x 7 x 365 database operation
    • Configure and maintain clustered servers running SQL Server in regards to availability, recoverability, and performance
    • Manage database security, backup, and disaster recover issues
    • Interact regularly with application development staff as facilitator and client problem resolver; works collaboratively on such activities as performance problems, hardware/software upgrades, new application setup and implementation, etc.
    • Helps identify best practices in database upgrades, migration, data management and data governance and implements them
    • Deliver high-quality solutions in a repeatable manner
    • Communicate complex technical information in a concise and articulate manner
    • Assist in the definition and development of database documentation and standards
    • Ability to weigh various suggested technical solutions against the original business needs and choose the most cost-effective and time-efficient solution
    • Assist in upgrading SQL Server to SQL Server 2012 and implementing the new features it contains
    • Uses MS TFS to manage tasks and maintain developed solutions
    • Work on ETL processes using SSIS
    • Develop database solutions using T-SQL

    Qualifications

    • 2 or more years previous experience in database administration
    • Minimum of 2 years’ experience with MS SQL Server 2005 or 2008
    • Minimum of a BS degree or equivalent professional experience in Database Administration or Software Development
    • Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for MSSQL Server including Windows Server clustering and transactional database replication
    • Broad experience in troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, connectivity issues, security issues, etc.
    • Experience in Performance Tuning and Optimization, using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools
    • Experience working with Windows server
    • Knowledge of how to monitor and fine-tune system performance and optimize SQL code
    • Experience in implementing operational automation using scripts
    • Knowledge of indexes, index management, and statistics

    • Ability to learn and adapt quickly to new technologies and processes on the job
    • Experience using native SQL Server tools and third-party utilities for SQL monitoring and alerting
