Overview

The IT Manager over the Business Analyst Team directly manages and develops business analysts who support various technical teams. They mentor and train Business Analysts to help them develop both technical and interpersonal skills which will make them more effective and efficient working with their teams. They ensure that the analysts adhere to the standards and procedures established by the department and teams. The IT Manager also provides developmental and corrective action where needed. They meet cross-functionally with Development and QA Managers as well as Product Managers and Business Stakeholders to appropriately build a collaborative team.

They define and drive the strategic direction of the team. This includes working with other IT managers and Business Units to help identify potential opportunities and weaknesses where the Business Analyst group can improve to help overall performance of the IT department and company.

While an IT Manager has the abilities and competencies to do the work themselves, they recognize the value in developing others and the benefit to everyone. They meet and exceed expectations regarding speed, attitude, and accuracy in their work and interaction with others. They have a deep technical understanding that allows them to be proficient in working with various technologies and people. They typically manage up to 10 individuals.

Responsibilities

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Core Team Leadership & Development

    • Serve as a mentor and coach, helping Business Analysts grow their technical and interpersonal skills.

    • Define career paths and mentor individual team members on career path options.

    • Create and review objectives and individual performance development plans for each team member.

    • Regularly evaluate team skills and assign responsibilities accordingly.

    • Develop training plans and schedule training for team members.

    • Determine current and future staffing requirements and hire new staff as required.

    • Continually evaluate processes and define performance improvements.

  • Requirements & Solution Management

    • Institute team standards and ensure your team follows the standards.

    • Ensure that your team is unblocked and has sufficient work to maintain full sprints by routinely attending team meetings and standups.

    • Ensure cross-team dependencies are being managed and assist Business Analysts when needed to ensure an adequate end to end solution is planned that can be built.

    • Deliver results based on time constraints in a rapidly changing environment.

  • Strategic Collaboration

    • Collaborate with Product, Development, and Quality Assurance managers to cultivate a seamless, cooperative team environment.

    • Positively influence relationships with other IT departments and Business Units.

    • Collaborate with management on the strategic direction of the Business Analyst group.

    • Develop and maintain a deep knowledge of both Business and System processes and functions and how they operate.

    • Demonstrate proficiency of various techniques that can be used to solve problems and increase a project’s level of success.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills

  • Basic Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree

    • 8+ years experience as a Business Analyst, Systems Analyst, Product Owner or equivalent position

    • Logical and analytical thinking

    • Strong attention to detail

    • Understanding of Software Development Life Cycles

    • Understanding of waterfall and agile methodologies and the flexibility to adapt models to best fit our environment

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with people of varying business and technical backgrounds

    • Fluent spoken and written English

    • Ability to work well in groups and on a team

    • Strong customer service mindset

    • Positive attitude

    • Business Process Management skillset

    • Experience coaching and mentoring others

  • Preferred Qualifications

    • Initiative

    • Curious mindset

    • Self-motivated in multiple project environments

    • Good at team management and motivating others

    • Technical certifications in Project Management, Business Analysis, or other disciplines

Position Specifics

  • Travel may be required periodically

  • Work in a collaborative office environment

  • Shift: M-F 8am – 5pm with periodic off hours being necessary
