Overview

The Senior Director of Supplier Quality will lead the strategic development and operational execution of our global supplier quality program for dietary supplements, foods, personal care, and over-the-counter (OTC) drug products. This leader will be responsible for ensuring that all raw materials, packaging components, and contract manufacturers consistently meet regulatory, quality, and safety requirements. This role is responsible for ensuring consistent, world-class execution Quality Assurance principles, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and regulatory adherence across all external manufacturing facilities This individual will be a key quality leader within the organization, leading and partnering cross-functionally to ensure our products meet all internal standards, external regulatory requirements, and customer expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and continuously improve a robust supplier quality management system (SQMS) compliant with FDA, cGMP, NSF, ISO 9001, and other applicable standards.
  • Lead the qualification, risk assessment, onboarding, and ongoing monitoring of suppliers and contract manufacturing organizations, including ingredient suppliers, packaging vendors, and testing laboratories.
  • Develop and oversee supplier audit programs (remote and on-site) and the Supplier Corrective Action Request process ensuring corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) are implemented and verified.
  • Establish and maintain robust supplier quality agreements and audit programs, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Partner with Procurement, R&D, Regulatory Affairs, and Manufacturing to ensure that supplier capabilities align with quality, regulatory, and business objectives.
  • Manage incoming material non-conformances, deviations, and investigations related to supplier-sourced materials; oversee root cause analysis and implementation of sustainable corrective actions.
  • Define and track supplier KPIs and scorecards to evaluate quality, service, and compliance performance.
  • Provide quality leadership during supplier selection and during product lifecycle stages, including new product development, tech transfer, and scale-up.
  • Stay current on global regulatory requirements affecting dietary supplements, foods, personal care and OTC drugs, and ensure supplier controls are updated accordingly.
  • Build, lead and develop a high-performing global supplier quality team, fostering collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Define and enforce corporate quality policies, SOPs, and standards across all external manufacturing operations.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives at suppliers, ensuring effective root cause investigations and preventive actions.
  • Serve as the senior quality representative in supplier business reviews, escalations, and critical issue resolution.
  • Provide QA oversight for technology transfers, scale-up activities, and new facility commissioning and qualification for external manufacturers of turnkey products.
  • Collaborate with Procurement and R&D to assess supplier capabilities during new product introductions and ensure quality readiness.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, resource planning, and strategic initiatives.
  • Report on quality system metrics, risk areas, and improvement plans to senior leadership on a regular basis.
  • Supervises related staff by performing such duties as recommending employment status (i.e., hiring, terminating, promotions, issuing warnings, etc.) interviewing applicants, counseling, training, scheduling, resolving conflicts, coordinating with other departments, conducting associate meetings, recommending wage increases, etc.

Qualifications

  • Must be willing to relocate to Idaho Falls, ID and work in person 5 days a week.
  • Bachelor's degree and 15+ years' of progressive Quality Assurance or Supplier Quality (preferably food, drugs, or nutritional supplement) in a regulated industry, with 5+ years of experience in a senior leadership role
  • Demonstrated experience managing turnkey suppliers, raw material and packaging suppliers
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong working knowledge of quality system tools (e.g., deviation tracking, CAPA, change control, electronic QMS platforms)
  • Ability to understand schematics/drawings and basic utility and equipment specifications
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and manage different priorities
  • Strong leader with proven track record of managing and developing a large and diverse group of people
  • Excellent computer skills with word processing, spreadsheet, and database
  • Excellent technical writer with a high level of attention to detail
  • Familiarity with supply chain traceability tools, quality management systems, and ERP platforms.
  • Certifications such as ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), or Six Sigma.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Proficient mathematical and statistical skills
  • Ability to work independently and with other departments
  • Ability to organize and coordinate projects and perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting with efficiency and accuracy
  • Ability to prioritize and make decisions based on risk

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Experience in dealing with FDA, EPA and OSHA.
